![]() ![]() So I scrapped that version and rewrote it from just Ever’s point of view. ![]() It was actually fairly easy for me to write the dual POV! I originally wrote Loveboat, Taipei from all four of the main characters’ points of view (with a few chapters from Rick’s girlfriend, Jenna), but found that I couldn’t do justice to all of their journeys in 120,000 words. Interview What was the hardest, and easiest, part of writing dual POV? Was Sophie easier to write than Ever? Please consider supporting your local bookstore, which can be accessed through Indiebound or Bookshop: Loveboat Reunion is available for order at all major retailers. Sophie’s college professor thinks her first major project is “too feminine.” Xavier’s father gives him an ultimatum: finish high school or be cut off from his inheritance. Xavier, on the other hand, just wants to stay under his overbearing father’s radar, collect his trust fund when he turns eighteen, and concentrate on what makes him happy, for the first time ever.īut the world doesn’t seem to want Sophie and Xavier to succeed. Forget finding the right guy to make her dreams come true-Sophie is going to make her future happen for herself. Sophie is determined to be the best student Dartmouth’s ever had. Now fall is here, and it’s time to focus on what really matters. They’ve left the drama behind them back in Taipei-at their summer program, Loveboat-forever. Spectacularly.Īt least they’re friends now. It’s a classic tale of girl-meets-boy, boy-meets-other-girl, heart-gets-broken, revenge-is-plotted, everything-blows-up. ![]()

In Image 3 by changing the placement, comparative size and perspective of rabbit and bear, it has changed the feel of the interaction and I think it almost feels like rabbit is challenging bear in this image. His use of darker tones and the positioning of the bear and rabbit for comparison, help to make the rabbit appear smaller in Image 1 and helps to depict bear as a more powerful animal (Winch et al., 2012). Klassens’s later use of the red background in Image 2 provides a link back to the rabbit but is also fundamental in creating the mood of the bear as he has his moment of revelation and to help us as the reader, feel his emotional response of anger (Galagher, Muir, & Richardson, 2002). The introduction of the colour red to represent the hat and then used for the rabbit’s dialogue help to make these elements stand out from the rest of the story as depicted in Image 1. There are no bright backgrounds and the white space behind the text is used to draw attention to the minimalistic illustrations. The colours and tone of the illustrations are introduced on the cover. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It makes the readers have good and much knowledge. The difficulties came in making sure I had a global representation of sites. I wanted to make sure that I covered not just the vertebrates that get done over and over – the dinosaurs and the ice age mammals – but a variety of places and times and environments. The idea of having one chapter for each geological division of time came fairly early on. It’s quite a challenge, distilling 550m years of natural history into 300 pages. When it won, I thought: maybe I can turn that approach into something longer form. A few years ago I entered the Hugh Miller writing competition and wrote about some of the earliest four-limbed vertebrates to come on to the land, which had been found in south-east Scotland. One thing that led to it was the idea that when we think about organisms in the past, we tend to talk about them in a family-tree sense, but never stop to think about what is going on in any given slice through time. ![]() ![]() ![]() Where did the idea for Otherlands come from? ![]() |
