![]() ![]() ![]() Klassen’s choice of text placement, colour and size are effective in helping to convey the textual meaning of the words. In Image 3 by changing the placement, comparative size and perspective of rabbit and bear, it has changed the feel of the interaction and I think it almost feels like rabbit is challenging bear in this image. His use of darker tones and the positioning of the bear and rabbit for comparison, help to make the rabbit appear smaller in Image 1 and helps to depict bear as a more powerful animal (Winch et al., 2012). Klassens’s later use of the red background in Image 2 provides a link back to the rabbit but is also fundamental in creating the mood of the bear as he has his moment of revelation and to help us as the reader, feel his emotional response of anger (Galagher, Muir, & Richardson, 2002). The introduction of the colour red to represent the hat and then used for the rabbit’s dialogue help to make these elements stand out from the rest of the story as depicted in Image 1. There are no bright backgrounds and the white space behind the text is used to draw attention to the minimalistic illustrations. The colours and tone of the illustrations are introduced on the cover. ![]()
